Wow - we are overwhelmed by the volume and, best of all, the quality of the comments being left in support of CBeebies presenter Cerrie Burnell.

Many many thanks to all of you who have posted, or signed up for the newsletter!

INTRODUCTION

We find it shocking that some 'people' would find it 'offensive' that Cerrie Burnell presents on childrens television - namely CBeebies.

We've setup a quick guestbook (moderated!) so you can register your support for Cerrie...see below:

You go girl....... children need to see that not everyone looks the same and that any kind of difference or disability should never hold you back.....Cant believe there are still small minded people commenting on Cerrie disability when there are more importent things in the world that we have to worry about. Shame on them.

Wow!! Didnn't know people could be so ignorant!! If "disability" is offensive, what what be offensive next? An ethnic presenter? It is important to teach our children we are all different, and what matters is how we treat others. There is something wrong with the parents who complained...children aren't afraid of these things unless we teach them to be...just because these parents are afraid to broach the subject and find it uncomfortable, doesn't make it unacceptable!! Makes me mad!! This is as bad is sexism, racism, and every other wrong "ism"..shame on you, ignorant parents!! :-(

i dont see there is a problem with cerrie presenting .my daugther as a disability and maybe if parents sat thier children down and explained that we sometimes look different from each other+sometimes people look different but thats ok because they are no different to us we are all the same .but sometimes some of us need more help +support to do the things that some of us do without needing help. And i applause the bbc for employing cerrie+maybe they should employ more people with disabilities.to prove to the people out there that are living in thier so-called perfect world + maybe they will get educated because lets face it there,s a lot a lot of people who needs educating...........well done cerrie you do a fab job  dont give it .my daugther loves you +my nieces+nephews have never mention your hand.or that you look different in any way.oh but maybe thats because they have been educated good luck love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

i knew cerrie along time ago when we were little, when her dad and mine used to play cricket together, I remember her as a lovely girl. if every parent allowed their child to see that everyone is different and unique, the world would be a better place.

why is there so many small minded people,so cerrie is minus part of an arm does that mean when my daughters grow up they should ridacule and alienate anybody that doesnt look "normal"

if people go down that route then justin/and the children that feature on his show shouldnt be shown

my spelling is poor and iam a single male parent of 3 if it was down to single minded people who think cerrie scares children then god help us,i think its great cerries on shes funny, comes across as careing and does a great job.

Hi, i did a lesson on Disability with a year 8 group and one of the boys brought you up. He was horrified by some peoples ignorant reaction to you and the class had quite a debate! All 31 of them were in full support of you, and weeks later i still get them running up to me telling me that they had seen you on TV last night! As a mother of 2 small girls who love the bedtime hour i think you're fab; everything a childrens presenter shoud be. Keep up the good work, and don't let small minded people get you down xx

When Carrie came on CBBC with Alex, my first reaction was, OH NO....where is Pui? where is Steve?? lol. Honestly i had grown to love their presence. But now i love the new hosts. About Carrie, she is such a beutiful woman and I am proud of her strength to not make a weakness out of her disability, which in fact is not even a disability, as she can do everything we can do. She is perfect, more so than us!

My Daughter asked why Cerrie's arm was like that, I just said she had a poorly hand when she was younger, I didnt know full details, but apart from that my Daughter accepts it, she even pulled the bottom half of an arm off a pop up picture book and said look Cerrie, I think its parents who are making the issue, Kids maybe scared cos its different, but if parents say the right thing then the kid shouldnt be, there shouldnt be any complaints, cos  disability isnt something bad or to be afraid of, its something that everyonbe should understand nd not be ashamed of!! The only thing she didnt like was that Chris nd Pui had gone!! lol, but we can all see Cerrie isnt bothered nd its a breath of fresh air to see someone so pretty and talented accept the way they are!! xxxx

hi,

I just want to say i am astounded that there are still so many ignorant people around today. When i heard that parents were complaining about Cerrie i couldn't believe it....to be honest it took me a while to even notice her arm as my grandad had only one arm aswell so growing up it was a normal thing and although my daughter is a bit too young to notice, when and if she does i shall just explain to her that everyone is born different but it makes them no less of a person.....plus i think these people need to realise that despite her difference she is obviously doing very well for herself and probably better than them.

Nice one Cerrie xx

I'm digusted about the people that have said such horrid things.  My little one is too young but my 4 yrs old has commented about her arm and I answered her honestly about it - she hasn't mentioned it again.  My 7 yr old asked what happened to her arm and again I answered as honestly as I could.  I really don't see how anyone could make such a big deal about it - they should get a life.  I think she is an inspiration in life and also in the way she has dealt with this all.

At my 20 week scan I found out that my baby will be born with only one hand, and at the same time, Cerrie started presenting Cbeebies. It has helped me so much to see what you can achieve with a physical disability, and gives me so much hope for my daughters future. My son who is nearly three has never noticed anything different about Cerrie, and loves watching her and Alex. Well done Cerrie for doing such a great job, and thanks for showing me that it makes no difference that my baby will only have one hand. Helen.

It's truly awful that this is happening to you Cerrie and I can't really understand why people would be complaining - how sad must their lives be?? Just keep doing what your doing and keep that head held high...x

i have 4 kids that love cbeebies and all the presenters. its narrow minded people that teach our kids that they have a problem with carrie and other peoples disabilities. carrie is a great person, my 6 yr old daughter asked ( like many other kids) why she had half a arm and i explained that carrie may have been born that way and if she was then she is very special. us as parents need to show our kids that others with disabilities are brave and to not be nasty to them.

I can't believe people are still causing a fuss over Cerrie.  Yes she only has one hand, so what.  It doesn't seem to bother Cerrie in the slightest, she seems to just get on with her life, so why should it bother others.  Maybe if they had to live with such a disability they would see things very differently!!

My 3 year old son loves watching Cbeebies and has never made a comment about Cerrie.  Maybe he hasn't noticed or maybe it doesn't bother him I don't know, but if he does ever mention it then I'll explain that there is nothing to be scared or frightened about.

It worries me as he was born with a deformed chest wall.  I hope and pray that he doesn't have to suffer the appalling comments Cerrie has had to endure.  I hope he can get on with his life as Cerrie has and if he's half as talented, successful and warm natured as Cerrie, I'll be a very happy and proud mummy - Lisa from Bolton xx

Kate's Mum!

I have a 2 yr old and another one on the way! The 2 yr old Kate LOVES Cbeebies! If she has noticed a difference in Cerrie's arm she hasn't  mentioned it yet. Her enjoyment of Cbeebies has in no way been affected by the change in presenters! I wish there were more people in the media with disabilities so that it was more widely accepted. If Kate does ask questions I'll speak to her plainly and simply! Kids are brilliant with their curiosity!

Cerrie! You are brilliant! You are a perfect kids presenter - enthusiastic, cheery and you speak very clearly! Keep up the good work!

A small note to show our support for Cerrie. My 3 year old son Ruben did ask about your arm, I explained that everyone is different, we look different, we like different things and have very different needs. But everyone needs to be loved and and respected. We love you Cerrie! Keep up the good work.

Along side this you have also helped Ruben to understand that his baby brother is different too, though to look at he looks the same as any other baby he was born with half a heart.  His recognition of this was to say "she has a special arm like my brother has a special heart hasn't she?" Ruben said this out of the blue a few weeks after we talked about your arm. So thankyou for being strong and proud.

with love Ruben and Lukas Proverbs.

We never knew that there was an outcry over Cerrie presenting Cbeebies, and were shocked to find out!! it never occured that people would take issue with something which has nothing to do with how well she does her job!  This gives us parents and carers an fantastic opportunity to educate our children in diversity issues and raise wonderful, open minded accepting children. We love Cerrie in our house, she is very sweet and fun, maggie loves watching her xxxxxx

I just want to say that i cannot believe there are still small minded people about regarding Cerries physical disability. My 3 yr old daughter loves cbeebies & has never even questioned it she just accepts it as the norm so to speak & quite rightly so & usually children are very inquisitive when they see something a little different. This is a really great move by cbeebies bosses as it will allow small children to learn that we are all different in some way & that it is not a bad ,scary or wrong to be different.

Thank you cerries your great!

Melissa & Grace.

My son and i have zero problems with Cerries disability. Only small minded people have this problem, and it is them who have to go away and look deep within themselves. It was pure inner uglyness that tried to belittle a woman who proceeds with her life with what i would imagine as 'not a problem' . Good show to the girl....although, i must say, maybe her and her fellow presenter might get some singing lessons.

my son is nearly 3 and watches cbeebies every day, i must thank cerrie because she not only learns  about happy play she also now helps to learn about tolerance of things and people which are different .i must say i had 2 point out cerries "special" arm 2 my son as he was oblivious 2 it as i bet a lot of the young viewers of cbeebies were .in my opinion the agegroup of the children who watch cbeebies are the most tolerant, accepting and innocent minded of any of us so the tollerance lesson cerrie is teaching is to the parents because if a toddler can accept that people are different it shouldnt be so difficult 4 the small minded adults who complained to do the same . keep up the good work cerrie were behind u every step of the way x

Hi there,

I've just had the most amazing conversation with my 2 year old son, we were watching Cbeebies n he said 'mummy that lady has no arm! She can borrow mine if she wants!!'

Quite clear its the narrow minded parents with the problem!

Good luck in all you do!

I can't believe that this story even made news, it is ridiculous that some small minded people are making such a fuss, aren't we supposed to teach our children to accept others regardless of what they look like or if they have any disabilities. We support you Cerrie and hope you can ignore this bunch of ignorant small minded people.
